Only five minutes on foot to the bank of the Rhine, in a lively business district with many bars, a new mall was created on Klybeckstraße in the Swiss city of Basel that constitutes an expansion to the adjacent office buildings.

Earlier this year, durlum took over Georg Haag AG, the company that supplied this bespoke ceiling solution.

Over a length of more than 40 metres, these aluminium panels create a modern and almost futuristic visual impression. In a hexagonal pattern, these panels merge perfectly into the overall impression. The individual panels are perforated in a hexagonal pattern with a hole diameter of 17 mm, imbuing the ceiling with something of an open character.

To reinforce this geometrically striking impact and to create a visual distinction between the elements, there are no holes around the edges of these aluminium panels. As well as this main feature, a further 60 different transition panels were installed that create an enclosing border with a shadow gap.

The 'Passage' is a mall that blends superbly well into the surrounding Basel cityscape and the backing of black fabric also satisfies the requirements relating to acoustic insulation.
