After several relocations during the 220 years since it was founded, the National Library of Luxembourg has finally found itself a permanent home. Within the space of just 4.5 years, an ultramodern and architecturally impressive building has been constructed on the well-known Kirchberg plateau to the North East of the capital of this Grand Duchy.

Even the exterior of this structure, with its large, red-coloured exposed concrete elements, is a visual highlight.

The open, geometric character extends right across the three storeys of the interior. In the foyer and the reading areas, durlum has worked jointly with Apleona, the interior outfitting company, to incorporate an appropriate ceiling solution.

With its angular design, the National Library is imbued with a dynamic visual tension that provides a perfect complement to the straight lines of the POLYLAM vertical baffle ceiling. Powder-coated in white, this linear design of ceiling blends superbly well into its modern and at the same time warmly inviting environment. These baffles, installed in various different lengths, are also backed with fabric. This substantially improves the interior acoustics.

A contemporary national library that units all aspects of forward-looking architecture, and that most certainly invites people to read and browse.
