Expanded Metal Ceilings RHOMBOS

Ideal for a wide variety of building types, RHOMBOS expanded metal ceilings from durlum are particularly suited to spaces requiring large free ceiling cross-sections. Thanks to their neutral acoustic properties within certain frequency ranges, these ceilings provide a flexible basis for optimising room acoustics.

The dur-SONIC CUBE broadband absorber can be used to improve sound absorption while maintaining the open character of the ceiling. Mounted behind the ceiling on the substructure, it can achieve absorption values of up to αw = 0.85 depending on the occupancy density.

The dur-SONIC QUAD complements the system for specific requirements in the low-frequency range (125-500Hz). This absorber can be installed on both walls and ceilings and contributes towards balanced room acoustics and enhanced speech intelligibility.

Additional acoustic effectiveness can be achieved by integrating sound-absorbing materials as a backing to the the expanded metal ceiling – for example acoustic fleece, mineral wool or PET felt:

  1. Black acoustic fleeces such as DUROBOND R6/40FF and R6/150FF achieve absorption values of αw = 0.45 and αw = 0.75.
  2. Combining DUROBOND R6/40FF with an additional mineral wool layer in a PE bag can increase sound absorption across the entire frequency range, achieving an αw = 0.95-1.00.
  3. The sustainable PET felt DUROBOND ISO 30 combined with RHOMBOS achieves a sound absorption coefficient of αw = 0.85 (H), and even up to αw = 0.95 (H) as a freely suspended raft ceiling with one-sided cladding.
