The main railway station in Dortmund is a central transport node in the Ruhr region and is considered to be one of foremost railway stations in Germany. Every day, it serves more than 80,000 travellers as a transfer point. Deutsche Bahn decided on this comprehensive modernisation of the main station in Dortmund in response to the increasing volume of traffic and the demands this imposes in terms of modern rail infrastructure. All of this work is scheduled for completion before the 2024 European Championships with the aim of providing the large number of international visitors with a modern and inviting railway station.

The versatile S-OMEGA PROTECT ceiling lighting system was installed in the pedestrian subways. It consists of the OMEGA PROTECT lighting channel that also doubles as a substructure for the rectangular metal panels. ENEC-certified (European Norms Electrical Certification), this luminaire, which has the highest impact resistance rating IK10 and is used in areas with particularly high footfall, is ideal for long-term use in such a busy location. Used in conjunction with the acoustically effective rectangular metal panels, this ceiling-light combination supports the goal of creating a pleasingly ambient solution that is sustainable as well as energy-efficient. The outcome is a modern, inviting railway station that is functional as well as visually appealing.
